DJ Khaled’s “Father of Asahd” is average as a whole project BUT there’s 3 songs on the album that I really gravitated to. I’d been waiting to hear “Higher”, as I’d seen the social media posts from the late & great Nipsey Hussle & DJ Khaled to know that their collaboration would be on this album. “Higher” is exceptional & I didn’t know that I needed to hear Nipsey & John Legend together! Knowing that Nipsey had just filmed the video just before his death & the content of the song makes this all so heartbreaking. My heart goes out to Lauren & the fam. The other two songs I love are “Won’t Take My Soul”, which features Nas & CeeLo Green & “Weather The Storm” that features Meek Mill & Lil Baby. All 3 songs are an example of what DJ Khaled does best - bringing artists together that you haven’t necessarily heard together before, so they can create magic.
“Earfquake” feat. Playboi Carti, “I Think” feat. Solange & “Running Out Of Time” feat. Frank Ocean are three of my favourites from Tyler’s “IGOR” album. The album features the distorted vocals of all the featured artists so it might take you a minute to realise who is who as no one’s s credited (if you do your googles, you’ll find out which artists are on each song). The album is a great continuation from one of my favourite 2017 albums, “Flower Boy” & it’s definitely going to be on rotation for the rest of 2019.
“Fever”, Megan Thee Stallion’s debut album, is out & to be honest, I haven’t gotten past the opener “Realer”. It’s a dope record & it’s Megan through and through. I can’t wait to really get into the album over the next week, especially as it’s been well-received already.
If you didn’t know, Styles P released his 11th album “S.P. The Goat: Ghost Of All Time” a couple of weeks ago & “Give N Take” is one my favourite song. The reflective & solemn song is signature Styles, who always has gems in his songs for moving forward in life. Last but not least, I can’t stop listening to “False Signals” by Melii from her “Phases” album, which I’ve talked about before in an earlier post. It’s my favourite song on the album & there’s so many gems in that song for women (and men too). Don’t sleep on Melii!
