“Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” is the double album from the legendary Outkast who are one of my favourite hip hop duos of all time. The critically acclaimed project was released in September 2003 & was an international success. “Speakerboxxx” is Big Boi’s album & “The Love Below” is André 3000’s. The concept for this project really allowed Big Boi & André 3000 to focus on their individual artistry, ultimately giving us two albums that perfectly introduces them as solo artists.
Personally, “The Love Album” is my favourite of the two because it’s an eclectic masterpiece that sees André exploring sound beyond hip hop. He produced or co-produced every song on the album & that’s why the album sounds so authentically him. It’s not to say that there aren’t gems on Big Boi’s offering but “The Love Below” is it for me. The double album features huge singles, such as “The Way You Move”, “Hey Ya” & “Roses”. My favourite songs from the project are “Ghetto Musick”, “Prototype”, “She Lives In My Lap”, “Hey Ya!”, “Roses” & “Dracula’s Wedding” feat. Kelis. If you’ve somehow going through life & still haven’t heard this Outkast album, please correct this mistake today.
