Somehow I managed to miss the release of Alex Isley’s “The Beauty of Everything, pt. 2” EP in early May. The 5 track R&B project is beautifully written and produced, with Alex being the songwriter and producing the majority of the project. For now, “We’ll Always Have Paris” is my current fave. The smooth vocals and production reflect the content. Alex songs about realising that a relationship must come to end as she doesn’t like walking with her eyes closed.
Chris Brown released his new album “Indigo” on 28th June, which has 32 tracks and notable features. Obviously, I immediately played “Come Together” because I’d been impatiently waiting to hear it as it features H.E.R.. It’s EVERYTHING! The song details the clear attraction and feelings between these two people who are contemplating taking the next step. It’s a sexy song that compliments Chris and H.E.R.’s ability to gel incredibly well together. Looking forward to more collaborations between these two!
I haven’t followed the careers of Freddie Gibbs and Madlib but I stumbled across “Palmolive” feat. Push T and Killer Mike via The Joe Budden Podcast (their latest episode). The song is from their new album “Bandana”, which also dropped on 28th June, and reminds me of old skool 90s hip hop.
Last but not least, Mustard dropped his third album “Perfect Ten” on 28th June too and the last song on the album, also titled “Perfect Ten” features the late and legendary Nipsey Hussle. The production appears to have been deliberately stripped down to allow listeners to really absorb everything Nipsey is saying and hopefully cause you to reflect after the album closes. It’s beautifully done and as always sombre. RIP Nip! 💙The Marathon Continues 🏁.
