“The Writing’s On The Wall” is still my favourite Destiny’s Child album. Released on 27th July 1999, the album has huge singles such as “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name”, as well as “Jumpin’, Jumpin’” and “Bug A Boo”. In my opinion, this album is a true representation of the Destiny’s Child signature sound, the original members’ songwriting talent and Beyoncé’s producer abilities.
The album is centred around young women in the dating scene and the issues that can arise in relationships. This predominantly R&B album has a song for every mood and is the kind of album that you still want to hear in 2019. This is partly due to nostalgia but is mostly because this is a damn good album! Also, as much as I love the singles, my favourite songs are mostly album cuts e.g. “So Good”, “Confessions” feat. Missy Elliott, “Temptation” and so on.
Missy Elliott, Rodney Jerkins, Kandi, Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs and the R&B group Next are some of the notable names who contributed to this album. Hopefully the original DC members & Michelle will reunite for a reunion tour as I would love to hear this album live. Until that happens, I’ll just keep replaying this album.
