Aside from “Kaleidoscope” being my fave Kelis album, “Tasty” is a close second. The album features three favourites of mine - “Milkshake”, “Millionaire” featuring André 3000 and “Glow” featuring Raphael Saadiq. Obviously “Milkshake”, written and produced by the legendary The Neptunes, was the monster hit from this album and to this day, is one of Kelis’ biggest singles to date. As mentioned, The Neptunes were involved in this project like her previous two albums but she also welcomed in new collaborations with Raphael Saadiq, André 3000, Dallas Austin, Rockwilder and Dame Blackmom. It reflects well throughout the album as it’s more sonically diverse and allows Kelis to be the many sounds that she embodies as an artist.
Out of my three favourites songs, “Millionaire” is that song for me. Not only is it an eargasm, I get to hear the result of two artists I adore doing what they do best together. Side note: their other collaboration “Dracula’s Wedding” on “The Love Below” is also a fave of mine.
Released by Star Trak and Arista on 5th December 2003, the R&B album is critically acclaimed and succeeded in continuing to outdo her previous efforts, although some believe “Kaleidoscope” can’t be surpassed as her best work.
If you haven’t heard the album or forgot about it, there’s loads of season appropriate music on it and other A list features (Raphael Saadiq & Nas) so this would be a great time to stream it!
